About the job

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sits at the heart of the criminal justice system, working with partners to help keep the public safe. We perform a vitally important role, prosecuting criminal cases independently and without bias so that justice is served for victims, witnesses, defendants, and the public. The Communications Directorate makes a vital contribution to this work. The more the public understand our role and trust the decisions we make, the more likely they are to support prosecutions as victims or witnesses.

We support a strong team culture, working collaboratively and supporting colleagues’ development. Working for the CPS is hugely rewarding, professionally stretching and gives great scope for individuals to make a real impact. Our Communications Officers are a key part our communications team, we simply couldn’t function without them. They lead on internal and external communications, and design projects, to support business objectives and the delivery of our 2025 strategy. Working with colleagues and stakeholders across all levels; from our senior leadership team, to our newest apprentices, our communications officers help the organisation communicate internally, and explain and promote the work of the CPS to the public through external channels.

In the role, you will use your skills and experience to create design, produce video, write for a range of different channels (both digital and traditional), develop and implement campaign plans, and plan and evaluate communications activity. You will need an eye for detail and the ability to be creative in your approach to communications challenges, along with being proactive in seeking to continuously improve what we do. You’ll be able to use the full range of your skills and we’ll help you learn new ones. We can offer career development, both through our own training and development, and through the Government Communication Service.

If you have design, and communications experience, along with a passion for criminal justice, you could be a real asset to our team.

We are open to applications for those wishing to work full time/part time/job share.

We are a hybrid working organisation, meaning you will be able to have a mix of working from both home and the office. Although our HQ is based in London, we have offices based across England and Wales and are open to discussions about being based from one of those locations. There will still be a requirement to attend the HQ on occasions, but if you are based from another location then travel costs will be covered.
