Role Summary:
The Finance Manager / Business Partner will act as the main point of contact in accounts ensuring the overall efficient and smooth functioning of the finance function and providing
strategic finance business partnering for the business to ensure that our business performance, risk and commercial strategies align with the growth of the business.
Role and Responsibilities:
Commercial Forecasting & Business Performance Analysis
- Regular reviews of our commercial forecasting with both operations team and Client Directors to ensure live and proposal costs are input / forecast correctly and that Ops team, Account Manager and Accounts are all aligned and informed.
- Create monthly business performance / KPI report – adding commentary, insights and challenge to Director team.
- Contribute to Commercial Leadership Team – preparation for meetings, presenting financials and prioritising discussions and actions that will drive the commercial plan – working closely with Commercial & Marketing Manager
- Review costs and P&L to ensure good cost control and management of net profitability, debt repayment and strong cash-flow
- Responsible for acting as the interface between the Operations team and the Leadership Team in matters relating to finances
- Year-end preparation, closing and identification of accruals / pre-payments adjustments and accurate forecasting of business performance, re-setting systems for the year ahead
- Supporting the creation of the future business plan from a financial perspective
- Continuous improvement of KPI reporting, measurement and efficient use of technology to support business intelligence
- Monthly call with each Product Owner to check targets against actual/proposed costs to ensure dashboards reflect accurate detail and highlight any action.
Client pricing and contractual requirements
- Complete new vendor registrations and complete initial reviews of client legal contracts.
- Review pricing for major proposals
- Support directors with preparation for routine rate negotiations with clients to incorporate inflationary or market rate increases
Employee Ownership representative
- Attend monthly virtual networking meetings of the Employee Ownership Association
- Update the leadership team on any new developments in the field of employee ownership
Line Management · Manage a Finance Executive and Bookkeeper · Liaise with external accountant for statutory reporting and VAT returns.
The Person:
The ideal mix:
- Qualified accountant, ideally with CIMA qualification
- Experience working in a smaller business / SME
- Experience of commercial business partnering – with a strong track record of influencing business performance
- Highly IT literate and confident with Microsoft Office particularly Excel, as well as the ability and openness to learn how to use the specific systems and apps we use extensively in our work– e.g. Slack, Xero, Monday.com
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to engage with clients and team members.
- Proactive, flexible approach to all activities, willing to offer creative solutions to problems.
- Cultural awareness and understanding of global business environments.
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones.
- The ability to operate at both a strategic/commercial level and also comfortable getting into the detail.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently and with attention to detail.
Terms:
- Permanent contract
- Salary/Hourly Rate – from £45-55k FTE depending on experience (£23-£28 per hour) with pension contributions, Medicash, life assurance, holiday pay and EOT bonus (depending on business performance).
- Hours ideally spread over 2-3 days per week – variable and flexible hours which may include very occasional evening/weekend working
- Company contribution to NEST pension plan
- 5.8 weeks holiday (including public holidays)
- 20 hours development time per year
Location – Work from home, with occasional meetings usually around Surrey. We currently meet as a whole team face to face 4 times per year, with ad-hoc other meetings in smaller groups as needed
