Pushkin House is looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and proactive professional to the role of Head of Development and Finance.

Head of Development and Finance will work as part of Pushkin House’s senior management team to support the development of the organisation with responsibility for finance and fundraising. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, Head of Development will play a key role in ensuring Pushkin House has the robust and efficient fundraising strategies and financial systems necessary to deliver its mission in a dynamic and sustainable way.

Head of Development will prepare monthly financial reports (P&L and project budgets), quarterly reports for the trustees, management accounts, and develop and implement fundraising strategy including grant applications and stakeholder engagement.

Working closely with the Executive Director and the curatorial team you will build a portfolio of potential donors, engaging with them through phone calls, meetings, written correspondence, events and by creating engaging proposals. You will also have experience in writing successful grant applications and will be aware of any new suitable grants that become available. You will be responsible for overseeing the accounts function in its entirety and ensuring sustainability and future growth of Pushkin House.

  • Financial Reporting 40%

Job objectives

  • To oversee cash flow and financial planning of the organisation.
  • To develop a fundraising strategy and support Pushkin House in achieving significant income generation targets.
  • To develop and cultivate a range of prospects and donors.
  • To implement a Pushkin House membership scheme.
  • To secure sponsorships, grants and in-kind support for Pushkin House programming.
  • To develop applications to major funding bodies for restricted-projects.
  • To lead fundraising and income generation for key projects including specific fundraising appeals.
  • To develop reports, statistics and analysis to monitor development progress.
  • To work closely with the accountant to produce monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • To pay invoices, salaries, pensions and tax.
  • To write and maintain monthly, quarterly and annual budgets.

Essential knowledge and experience

  • Experience in strategy development, fundraising and grant-making.
  • Excellent demonstration of financial acumen and experience of financial management including business planning, budget profiling and forecasting.
  • Good understanding of the challenges of the cultural sector in the UK.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Desirable experience and skills
  • Experience in using Xero software.
  • Experience in using Beacom CRM system.
